Our Healthcare Worker of the Year award was created to recognize the extraordinary people who make a lasting impact not only through their skills, but through their heart.
This year, we’re thrilled to announce Marilyn Ygonia as C-Care’s 2nd Annual Healthcare Worker of the Year award winner!
Chosen through heartfelt nominations submitted directly by clients and families, this award reflects the true impact our caregivers have in the lives of those they support. Marilyn’s nomination stood out not only for her nursing excellence, but for the deep emotional and practical support she has provided to a client and their family for nearly a decade.
Among this year’s deeply touching nominations, one stood out for its impactful reflection of long-term, life-changing care. Marilyn, a dedicated nurse with C-Care since 2017, was described by the family she’s supported as “the most caring, compassionate, and competent nurse we have ever had,” Marilyn has been a constant source of strength through the ongoing challenges of caring for a loved one post-stroke.
She has been with this family since 2018, caring for a husband who suffered a stroke nine years ago. In that time, she has become far more than a nurse, she has been described as “a rock” and “the most caring, compassionate, and competent nurse we have ever had.” Her unwavering support has allowed the family to keep their loved one at home, something they say would not have been possible without her.
The emotional toll of caregiving is something only truly understood through experience, and Marilyn has walked alongside this family every step of the way. She has built a foundation of trust with her client, managing emotional outbursts with grace, patience, and even humour, earning the unique distinction of being the only person he has never had an outburst with.
Her care has gone beyond emotional support. While her client experienced infections during a hospital stay, under Marilyn’s attentive care at home, there were none—a testament to her clinical excellence and vigilance.
Marilyn’s presence has made all the difference, and her nomination is a true reflection of the impact a dedicated healthcare professional can have, not just on a client’s well-being, but on a family’s entire journey.
